Year mark has passed...

Me  and Elder Groberg with Mr. Wing.

Dear Friends and Family,

This week went by pretty quick. Here's a cool story.  I don't know if I mentioned this last week, but a missionary from another area in Hong Kong contacted a deaf lady, and then gave her number to us.  We sent her a text and were able to meet her this past week!  She is super nice.  Her name is Lee.  She is from mainland and her sign language is mainland sign language.  For the most part we can communicate but sometimes there is some misunderstanding.  We are meeting her again this week!  She has two kids who are also very nice.  Her youngest kid is 2 years old and right now he does not speak one language.  He doesn't speak at home because his parents are deaf, so mostly he talks to his relatives from mainland.  Sometimes he talks with people from Hong Kong, but right now he speaks like a mix of Cantonese and Mandarin and it is totally messed up.  He needs to interact with people from Hong Kong more.  He should be fine with time.

We ran into this guy on the street who we have seen a few times before.  We call him "saigaai wohpihng," which means World Peace.  It's because whenever we talk to him he just likes to talk about politics and world peace.  We ran into him on the street and he gave us some food which was cool.  We prayed with him and tried to give him a Book of Mormon but he refused.

Hitting my year mark in the mission made me feel old. It's a bit scary to think that this will be my last July in Hong Kong. Then August will be my last August and so forth.  It will definitely go by very quick.

Things are going well!  Love you all.

Love,
Elder Phillips

China Hong Kong Mission is 65 years old!

Dear Friends and Family,

This past week we have been doing well.  This past Friday we
celebrated the anniversary of opening the China Hong Kong Mission.  This year is the 65th year anniversary.  The original plan was to go to the "Peak" because that is where the dedicatory prayers were offered, but because the government would not comply we ended up holding the meeting in the Wan Chai building.  It was still a great event!

The deaf work is still progressing well.  We met a new guy this week named Mr.Wing.  He knows ASL.  He is a super smart guy. We are meeting him again this Wednesday.

I had been feeling stressed, then I realized something that I've forgotten.  I was worrying about our investigators one day and I had the thought come to my head (which is a scripture) John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them..." I've realized the Lord is in control of it.  Nobody cares more about them than him. So if the Lord is at the head, what is there to fear?

Today we are going on a hike so that should be fun.  I am looking forward to August, that is when mission President Hawks is good with us learning Chinese characters. It's going to be fun. Anyway Love you all!

Love you all,
Elder Phillips
